“For financial institutions, quantum presents itself as a leadership question well before the technology becomes a working tool,” said Dean Prof. Frederik ANSEEL at FiNETech8 – “Navigating Quantum Quality,” co-hosted by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), Cyberport Hong Kong, the FinTech Association of Hong Kong, and HKUST Business School.

Bringing together regulators, industry leaders, academics, and technology experts, the event explored the opportunities and challenges that quantum technologies present for the future of finance. In his keynote address, Prof. Anseel highlighted the critical role of leadership, governance, and organizational readiness in helping financial institutions prepare for the quantum transition. Prof. Allen HUANG, Head of the Accounting Department, joined an industry panel, sharing perspectives on how emerging quantum capabilities can be translated into practical applications for the financial sector.

Ms. Carmen CHU, Executive Director (Banking Supervision) of the HKMA, announces in her opening remarks the publication of the HKMA’s whitepaper on Quantum Computing and Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC).

Beyond the event, HKUST Business School is proud to lead the development of the PQC Toolkit in collaboration with the HKMA. Designed as a practical reference for banks, the toolkit will help financial institutions identify priorities for their transition planning and build the cryptographic agility needed for a quantum-safe future.
