Three faculty members from the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management (ISOM) have recently been recognized with major awards and professional appointments, underscoring the department’s excellence in research, teaching and impact.
Prof. HUI Kai-Lung Receives AIS Fellow Award
Prof. Hui Kai-Lung, Acting Dean of HKUST Business School, has received the Association for Information Systems (AIS) Fellow Award. The award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the information systems discipline in terms of research, teaching and service. The award recipients are expected to be role models to colleagues and students within the discipline and should be esteemed for their high levels of professional and personal integrity.
Together with the INFORMS Information Systems Society (ISS) Distinguished Fellow Award, Prof. Hui is the only dual Fellow in Information Systems who has developed his entire career in East Asia. He is also the only dual Fellow obtaining his PhD degree in Asia, specifically at HKUST.

Prof. XU Yan Reappointed to UEMAB
Prof. Xu Yan has been reappointed by the Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR Government to serve as a member of the Unsolicited Electronic Messages (Enforcement Notices) Appeal Board (UEMAB) for a term of three years, effective December 22, 2025. The UEMAB is to determine appeals against enforcement notices or any part of the enforcement notices related to sending commercial electronic messages served by the Communications Authority under section 38 of the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Ordinance (Cap. 593).
From 2007 to 2011, Prof. Xu was also a member of the Anti-Spamming Task Force of Hong Kong SAR Government which advises on policies and measures to tackle the problem of unsolicited electronic messages, in particular the legislation and implantation of Unsolicited Electronic Message Ordinance (UEMO).

Prof. YANG Yi Appointed Associate Editor of Information Systems Research
Prof. Yang Yi has been appointed Associate Editor of Information Systems Research, a top-tier business journal included in both the UT Dallas and Financial Times journal lists. The appointment reflects his growing recognition and standing in the field of information systems research.
