As part of HKUST Business School’s ongoing commitment to contributing to policy development and driving innovation, Prof. XU Yan (right in photo) of the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management delivered a report titled “Developing Hong Kong’s Technology and Innovation Industry by Leveraging Mainland Resources,” sponsored by the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong.

The report highlights a series of challenges facing the development of Hong Kong’s tech and innovation sector and explores how resources from the Mainland can be strategically leveraged to address these issues under the framework of “One Country, Two Systems.”

The report also presents case studies, such as the central government’s coordination in the development of Hong Kong’s submarine cable infrastructure — an initiative brought forward by the Communications Association of Hong Kong, and the project in which Prof. Xu has active involvement over the past two years.
