Awarded by: HKUST EMBA Alumni Association

The HKUST EMBA Alumni Association Award for the Best Case was presented at the Business School Board Meeting last month. Inaugurated in 2021, this accolade is the School’s first award in recognition of achievement made by faculty for business case development. The winning cases are selected based on the global distribution data from Harvard Business Publishing (HBP) – the case distribution partner of the School’s Thompson Center for Business Case Studies (Thompson Center).

This year, two cases were selected – “Arome Bakery: Replenishment of Fresh Bakery Products” by Professor Ronald LAU from the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management, and “Axe” by Professor Jaideep SENGUPTA from the Department of Marketing. The former case provides students with an understanding of stock replenishment for perishable goods and operations improvement, while the later one examines the effectiveness of a brand’s advertising strategy through the changing market conditions.

The Award was presented by Ms. GAO Jing and Ms. Jenifer XU, representatives of the HKUST EMBA Alumni Association. Professor XU Yan, Associate Dean (HKUST EMBA, Executive Education & China Strategy) of the School thanked the Association for its donation in setting up the Award and the Thompson Center for supporting the development of the winning cases.

Professor Winnie PENG, Director of the Thompson Center, stressed that, “HKUST cases are making a global impact, as reflected by the fact that over 65,000 copies of our cases have been used by universities around the world since our partnership with HBP in late 2018.”
