Sponsored by the Karen Lee Student Mentoring Center, the Peer Mentoring Program has been essential in supporting new students and helping them get oriented to HKUST. In the 2021-2022 academic year, the School set up the Peer Mentoring Program Committee to further support the program. Nine enthusiastic students joined the Committee and formed three main teams that are responsible for graphics, media, and events. Acting as a bridge between the School and peer mentors, the Committee aims to foster trendy ideas to engage students and enhance their experience. Five student members of the Committee have received a cash award of HK$3,000 each for their remarkable contributions.

In addition, awards were presented to exceptional Peer Mentors that went above and beyond their assigned duties in organizing events, sharing personal advice, and helping others to the best of their abilities. The winners of the “Excellence in Student Mentoring Award” included: Aman JAIN (Year 2) and CHEUNG Ka Man (Year 3) from BBA Management; WONG Cheuk Sing (Year 3) from BBA Operations Management and Management; and WONG Wai Kit (Year 3) from BBA Operations Management and Marketing. Congratulations!

In the new academic year, 124 students have joined the group of mentors. During the training session, Prof. Allen HUANG, Associate Dean (UG Programs) introduced the objectives of the Peer Mentoring Program and offered valuable insights on the roles and responsibilities of a competent peer mentor.

To kick-off this year’s Peer Mentoring Program, the Academic Advising Session and Peer Mentoring Day was held in mid-August. Attended by nearly 600 freshmen, the peer mentors introduced to their mentees various academic-related matters and useful tips to help them adapt to the new environment.
