In November, the Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA Program hosted two alumni sharing sessions. We were delighted to have Manab CHAKRABORTY, CEO of Partners in Prosperity, and Thomas LIU, Partner of Actis from the class of 2004. The two gentlemen spoke with us on the up-and-coming topic of “Responsible Investment and Impact Investment.”

Thomas shared with us how his company adopted an array of measures in hopes of making positive societal impacts. Some of the work they do include supplying renewable energy and training locals to become skilled labor in developing countries. On the other hand, Manab has recently finished his PhD thesis, sharing his findings on the "Impact Investment and Transformation of Microfinance Institutions in India.

During the second alumni sharing session, also from the class of 2004, was Shirley TAI, CEO of Shanghai Tang. Shirley shared her insights on how the luxury retail industry landscape has been reshaped by the ever-changing market, especially amidst the pandemic turmoil. With her extensive experience in luxury retail in Greater China, Shirley also outlined her vision as a leader and provided a fruitful discussion on how companies should reposition themselves to attract customers from different demographics.

It was humbling to be surrounded by our “high-impact, low-ego” alumni as they learned from each other’s experiences. A huge thank you goes to Manab, Thomas, and Shirley for their time and food for thought.
