The HKUST-NYU Stern Master of Science in Global Finance (MSGF) Program is an executive master program jointly offered by the HKUST Business School and Stern School of Business of New York University, with modules conducted in Hong Kong, New York and Shanghai, the three major financial centers in the world.

The 2019 Class of 48 students gathered in Hong Kong for the culmination of their studies, a 2-day integrative project group presentation to showcase their enhanced ability in addressing real-life finance issues. The project was comprised of an analysis of investor behaviour by applying the Fourier analysis in financial markets, proposing a framework in a targeted and strategic manner that helps investors to optimize their investments portfolios, while mitigating unintended exposure to economic variables.

The two-day activities concluded with a closing dinner, where the students shared their experiences over the past year with faculty members, their family members and friends.

A Warm Welcome to the Class of 2020

Shortly after bidding farewell to the 2019 Class, the Program welcomed a new cohort of 44 students and finance professionals from 15 citizenships with an average of 11 years of work experience.

This year, the Program introduced a team-building session for the new cohort, before they formally commenced their first module on Global Macro and Asian Markets by Prof Tom PUGEL from NYU Stern, and Foundations of Corporate Finance by Prof Kasper NIELSEN from HKUST Business School.

One of the unique features of the MSGF Program is the students are required to work in teams for the capstone project. The capstone project is the critical part of their learning as it is action-oriented and framed in terms of business policies and competitive strategies. And students are required to demonstrate their financial skills and analysis of the issues involved.

We believe the team-building session could help students to get to know each other so they can work on any team project, strengthen their collaboration throughout their academic journey and build life-long friendships.
