HKUST PhD candidate in Finance, Lakshmi NAARAAYANAN has won the Best Student Paper Award presented by the Western Finance Association (WFA). Founded in 1965, the WFA is the organizer of one of the top two US conferences in finance and is the professional society for academics and practitioners with a scholarly interest in finance research.
NAARAAYANAN’s research interests include corporate finance, the role of legal institutions, and emerging markets. In his single-authored paper, he investigates the effects of a reform that granted women equal inheritance rights as men on the growth of women’s entrepreneurship in a developing country.
