Synopsis

“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” - George Bernard Shaw

Interactions, from acquiring and retaining clients to improving employee engagement and performance, are the operational framework of any organisation. The quality of those interactions determines the momentum of an organisation.

Consider how little time we actually spend on the technical aspects of our work versus the interpersonal elements which include appraising, asserting, brainstorming, listening, motivating, persuading, and the list goes on.

Yet diversity in communication makes interactions challenging. Even when goals and interests are shared, interactions are often clouded by ambiguities and misunderstandings. If we focus too much on the task, we risk losing touch with what gains us buy-in. Effective alignment of communication styles establishes trust, rapport and collaboration. A maximized “ROI” would help us act on opportunities, mitigate risks, and promote productivity. We would enhance our personal branding and value proposition.

By focusing on how to flex your communication style to adapt to diversity in the workplace, this workshop will help participants:
· Develop an awareness of personal communication styles
· Explore techniques to bridge differences in communication styles
· Appreciate communication gaps between what one says versus what others interpret
· Flex personal communication styles to take into account the personal values of others
· Re-evaluate how one can improve the effectiveness of communication efforts
