President of Beta Gamma Sigma

As president of Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society for students of business and management, I would like to welcome the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology into our Society. Your students, both those presently enrolled in business programs and those entering in the future, can now set Beta Gamma Sigma membership as a goal when planning their academic careers.

When your most outstanding students earn membership in Beta Gamma Sigma, they achieve the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in an undergraduate or graduate program at a school accredited by AACSB - The International Association for Management Education. The Society is committed to establishing chapters at eligible institutions around the globe. With the new chapter at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Beta Gamma Sigma continues its expansion outside North America. As a result of this expansion, more of the best students of business (wherever they may study) can benefit from membership in Beta Gamma Sigma.

Thank you for providing your students the opportunity for Beta Gamma Sigma membership. The Society looks forward to a long and successful relationship with the students and faculty at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Dennis J. Weidenaar

Vice President of Beta Gamma Sigma

Congratulations to the faculty and students at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on your upcoming ceremony to install the newest chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma. As vice president of the Society, I am truly honored and pleased to have the opportunity to share in this occasion with you.

As you know, earning membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is an honor that provides a lifetime of benefits and recognition. Students elected to membership join a network of more than 440,000 of the world's top business and management professionals. That's very elite company. Thanks to the faculty at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, students of business and management can now set Beta Gamma Sigma membership as one of their academic goals.

Yuk-Shee Chan

Beta Gamma Sigma HKUST Chapter President

Although it was almost a quarter of a century ago, I still remember the joy of being inducted as a Beta Gamma Sigma member in 1977 after completing my MBA program. I am proud to be part of a great network that promotes and honors achievements in business studies and practices. At that time, Beta Gamma Sigma chapters were mainly based at the schools in the US.

The successful globalization of AACSB has now made this honor available to students of business schools outside the US. Our School is proud to be accredited by AACSB as it came to Asia and to establish formally today a Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter at HKUST.

The tie between the School and the Beta Gamma Sigma Society will provide opportunities for our top students to exchange ideas, information and expertise with their counterparts and business leaders around the world. I feel doubly honored to be the inaugural President of the HKUST Chapter as a long-time member of the Society.

Professor Yuk-Shee Chan

President, Beta Gamma Sigma
HKUST Chapter

The inauguration of the Beta Gamma Sigma HKUST Chapter last year was greeted with immense enthusiasm from all eligible candidates. The positive response indicated that recipients of the honor appreciated the value of the lifetime membership with this prestigious honors society. It also led to a Beta Gamma Sigma scholarship for our students.

With the continued support from this year's eligible candidates, the local chapter will again be able to offer a scholarship for a member in the year 2002-2003. I would like to congratulate and welcome our newly inducted honorees and members. In addition to the scholarship opportunity and recognition of scholastic achievement, our members will also be able to tap into the wider connection of the globally expanding Beta Gamma Sigma network.

The School will continue to extend the reach and network of our local BGS Chapter and foster exchanges among its members and with the business community. I hope the Chapter will not only bring benefits to our students, graduates and the School, but also make a positive contribution to the world around us.
