In addition to the recognition of your scholastic achievement, you will also be able to tap into the wider connections of the globally expanding Beta Gamma Sigma network. Locally, it is a pleasure to see that the HKUST chapter is receiving enormous support from the Hong Kong community. We look forward to working closely with our members and supporters to further develop our Chapter in the future.

My sincere congratulations to the newly inducted honorees and members. It is gratifying to see that the School has continued to develop its strong link with international honor societies such as Beta Gamma Sigma, a long-standing and prestigious association that recognizes academic excellence and provides excellent opportunities for interaction between students, faculty and professionals. Through connection with Beta Gamma Sigma, the members and honorees inducted each year are able to tap into an elite network of the world’s top business and management professionals. The School intends to continue to broaden the reach and network of the society to foster exchanges among its members and strengthen its ties with the business community.

Dr Edgar W. K. Cheng, GBS, JP, is currently the Chairman of the World-Wide Investment Co. Ltd. and has been in many other significant financial market positions such as Chairman of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, Vice-Chairman and non-executive director of the Hang Seng Bank Ltd., Vice President of the International Federation of Stock Exchange, Founding Chairman of the Hong Kong Securities Institute, Member of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Futures Exchange Ltd., Member of the Conference Board’s Global Advisory Council and an independent non-executive director of the Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Ltd. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary Research, an independent non-executive director of CNOOC Limited, an independent non-executive director of American International Assurance Co. Ltd. and an independent non-executive director of Shui On Land Limited.

In his other public service capacity, Dr. Cheng served as the Head of the Central Policy Unit of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region from 1999 – 2001. He is currently Chairman of the Council for Sustainable Development, a member of the Greater Pearl River Delta Business Council and a member of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.

Dr. Cheng was also appointed by the Chinese Government as a Hong Kong Affairs Advisor (1991 – 1997). He became a Member of the Preparatory Committee and also the Selection Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the National People’s Congress (1996-1997). At present, he is a member of the 10th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee.

Dr. Cheng graduated from the University of Notre Dame and the Medical College of Wisconsin. A former Chairman of the University Grants Committee in Hong Kong, a former member of the Education Commission and a former member of the Board of Governors of the East-West Center in Honolulu, he is at present Chairman of the Council of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Dr Allan Zeman, GBS, JP, is the Founder of The Colby International Group.

He is Chairman of Lan Kwai Fong Holdings Limited and the owner of Paradise Properties Group and Surin Plaza. He is also Chairman of Ocean Park. His other business interests are After Dark Films and Sweetpea Entertainment Inc.

Dr. Zeman sits on the Board of Wynn (Las Vegas). He joined the Richard Ivey School of Business’ Asian Advisory Board in 2001. He is also on board of the Hong Kong Arts Festival and the Hong Kong Community Chest. He serves as a director of the “Star” Ferry Company, Limited, is an independent non-executive Director of Pacific Century Premium Developments Limited, a non-executive director of Sino Land Company Ltd and Tsim Sha Tsui Properties Ltd. Dr. Zeman is also an independent non-executive director of The Link Management Limited. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to his many business interests, Dr. Zeman contributes much of his time to public service in Hong Kong. He is a member of the Tourism Strategy Group for the Hong Kong Tourism Commission; a member of the Board of the Urban Renewal Authority; a member of Business Facilitation Advisory Committee; a member of Food Business Task Force for Business Facilitation Advisory Committee; a member of Commission on Strategic Development to serve on Economic Development and Economic Cooperation with the Mainland; a member of Town Planning Task Force for Economic Analysis & Business Facilitation Unit; and a member of the Vocational Training Council.

In recognition of his many public services, Dr. Zeman was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1991 and awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star in 2004. He was awarded an honorary degree, Doctor of Laws Degree from The University of Western Ontario, Canada.
