The Only Institution in Hong Kong to Attain “Level 5: Pioneering School” in 2025 Positive Impact Rating
The HKUST Business School has once again been recognized as a global leader in responsible business education, achieving the highest distinction — Level 5: Pioneering School — in the 2025 Positive Impact Rating for Business Schools (PIR). The results were unveiled at the UN 2025 Global Forum on June 10.
This marks the sixth consecutive year that the School has been featured in the PIR and remains the only business school in Hong Kong to be recognized for its positive societal impact. The PIR is a student-driven global assessment that evaluates how business schools contribute to societal progress through governance, education, and public engagement.
What Sets Us Apart:
- Level 5 “Pioneering School”: Among the business schools in 28 countries being rated, we stand out in the highest category, reflecting sustained leadership and transformational impact across all evaluated dimensions.
- Outstanding Score: Achieved an overall rating of 8.8 out of 10, well above the global average of 7.8.
- Student-Led Evaluation: Based entirely on student feedback, the PIR offers authentic insights into how schools embed sustainability, ethics, and social responsibility into their culture, governance, and curriculum.
The PIR assesses schools across three core areas and seven impact dimensions:

The 2025 edition gathered feedback from over 17,000 students across 28 countries on five continents between September 2024 and March 2025. Developed by a coalition of global NGOs — including WWF, Oxfam International, and the UN Global Compact — alongside international student organizations, the PIR aims to shift the focus of business education from being the best in the world to being the best for the world.
