Prof. HUI Kai-Lung has been appointed as the Acting Dean of the HKUST Business School, effective from July 1, 2024. Concurrently, Prof. TAM Kar Yan, the former Dean, has transitioned to his new role as the Vice-President for Administration and Business at HKUST. The global search for the Dean position will commence.

Acting Dean Prof. Hui is the Elman Family Professor of Business, the Chair Professor of the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics, and Operations Management (ISOM), and the Academic Director of the Kellogg‐HKUST EMBA Program. An esteemed alumnus of the School and a three-time winner of the prestigious Franklin Prize for Teaching Excellence, he has taken on various key management roles at the School throughout the years, including Senior Associate Dean, Head of the Department of ISOM, and the Academic Director of both Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Program and HKUST EMBA Program, leading to a remarkable progression in his career at the University.

As an accomplished scholar, his research interests lie in the areas of cybercrime economics and policy, Fintech, privacy, IT policy, and electronic commerce, with works published in prestigious academic journals. Advocating to address real-world issues in the digital age, Prof. Hui has offered professional expertise and consultancy services to numerous governments and private organizations in Hong Kong and beyond.

Having obtained his BBA in Information Systems Management and PhD in Information Systems both from HKUST, Prof. Hui began his research and teaching career at the National University of Singapore in 2000. His academic journey came full circle in 2008 when he returned to serve at HKUST.
