Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Ranks No.2 in the World (Nov 18)
announced the 2019 Global Executive MBA (EMBA) Ranking. The Kellogg-HKUST EMBA claimed the second spot and continued to achieve an outstanding overall performance, with the “highest average salary” of its graduates maintained. Over the past ten years, the Program has clinched No.1 for seven times and No.2 for three times, while HEC took top spot for its first time this year. GUBS Alumnus Wins Rhodes Scholarship (Nov 29)
Topick reported that GUBS alumnus Siddhartha DATTA, one of the two candidates in Hong Kong that won the renowned Rhodes Scholarship this year. Siddhartha, a Bangladesh-born Hongkonger, will pursue postgraduate study in Computer Science at Oxford.
Giving Back to the Community (Nov 28)
Apple Daily featured alumni’s contribution to the society, where an SBM graduate Luke TAM, founder of Kaifong Tour, and CSE graduate Wayne CHAU, founder of Agent of Change, talked about how HKUST has inspired and equipped them with the knowhow on running social enterprises.
Social Movement (Nov 28)
efinancial careers looked into views of local students on the recent social movement. Two students Karmala GWOK and Cora SHEUNG from the Business School were cited. They said that business students tend to be more reserved in expressing their perspectives and few took part in the protests as they think it may hamper their chances of landing a job after graduating.

Hong Kong Economic Journal carried an article (解牛集) by Associate Prof. HUANG Hao, Department of Accounting, on the impact of Facebook’s planned digital coin Libra. He also explained the potential effect it may on the status of the US dollar and RMB internationalization.
Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act (Nov 22)
Xinhua net quoted comment by Adjunct/Emeritus Prof. Francis LUI, Department of Economics, as saying that the passing of the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act in the US will affect HK’s business environment and is not in line with the interests of the US.
AI Knowledge – Opportunities for Future of Work (Nov 18)
Hong Kong Economic Journal carried an article (解牛集) by Prof. TAM Kar Yan, Dean of HKUST Business School, on the impact of AI on employment. He said AI is set to replace many labor-intensive jobs, and thus our young generation should prepare for the arrival of new technology. He also mentioned the collaboration between HKUST and Microsoft to introduce AI curriculum for its students (HKEJ and HKET).
To Develop the Family Office Ecosystem (Nov 4 & 11)
Hong Kong Economic Journal carried two articles (解牛集) by Prof. PENG Qian, Associate Director of Tanoto Center for Asian Family Business and Entrepreneurship Studies, on setting up professional family offices. She said with the growing number of billionaires in Hong Kong and philanthropic activities, the city provides favorable environment to develop the ecosystem. In another article, she discussed how to attract tycoons to set up their family offices in Hong Kong and the importance of nurturing the right talent.
US-China Trade War (Nov 6)
China News.com cited comments by Adjunct Prof. KC CHAN, Department of Finance, in a forum on China’s economic growth prospect amid the US-China trade war. He said China should focus on promoting high-quality economic activities.
Harvard Business Review China Forum (Nov 4)
Mainland finance portals (投資界) reported that Associate Dean (HKUST EMBA, Executive Education & China Strategy) Prof. XU Yan joined a Harvard Business Review China Forum in Beijing as a panelist. He said a crucial element of China’s innovation is that the country has a diverse and massive market for different innovative products.
In Support of HK Fintech Week (Nov 4)
Mirage news reported that the HKUST Business School conducted a series of activities for students and the industry in a bid to support the Hong Kong Fintech Week in early November. These activities included an industry panel on the future of financial services and a virtual banking hackathon for students.
