Green finance requires trusted standards, sound regulation, and credible implementation. Drawing on Hong Kong’s experience, HKUST contributed its expert insights to regulators and policymakers from across the Arab region on advancing sustainable finance.
Prof. Keith CHAN from the Division of Environment and Sustainability represented HKUST at the 5th Regular Meeting of the Green & Sustainable Finance Network in Arab Countries, hosted online by Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) in June. He delivered a presentation on “Building Credible Green Finance in Hong Kong: From Taxonomy to Physical Climate Risk." As an economist whose research has informed the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s development of the Hong Kong Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance, Prof. Chan shared practical insights on taxonomy design, transition credibility, and physical climate risk management.

Facilitated by the HKUST Business School Executive Education Office, the exchange brought together around 50 financial regulators and supervisory authorities from across the Arab region. This engagement reflects the School’s growing presence across the Middle East and Central Asia. HKUST and AMF are actively exploring closer collaboration in research and executive education for regulators, central banks, and policymakers.
