The 17th Symposium on Risk Management and Business Intelligence (RMBI), organized by the BSc in RMBI Program at HKUST, was held recently. With the theme “Digital Assets: Risks and Opportunities,” the event gathered academics, industry leaders, alumni, and students to explore the fastchanging digital finance landscape.

The symposium was especially timely, taking place just two weeks after Hong Kong issued its first stablecoin license. This milestone added significance to the discussions on regulation, risk, and innovation in digital assets.

The program began with welcoming remarks from Prof. TAM Kar Yan, VicePresident for Administration and Business at HKUST. Four distinguished speakers then shared their perspectives:

  • Mr. Daryl HO, Executive Director (Monetary Management), Hong Kong Monetary Authority, on financial and monetary stability risks of stablecoins (pictured left)
  • Ms. Raluca POPA, Head of Global Trade Solutions, Commercial Banking, Hong Kong, HSBC, on tokenization of trade assets and documents (second from left)
  • Mr. Alan CHAN, Partner, Consulting, PwC, on systemic risks and opportunities in asset tokenization (second from right)
  • Mr. Calvin LAM, Director, VMS Investment Group, on bridging traditional finance with Web 3.0 (pictured right)

The symposium concluded with an engaging Q&A session and provided a meaningful platform for students and alumni to learn from leading experts and stay informed about emerging trends in risk management and digital assets.
