HKUST Business School welcomed a group of senior executives from PROGorod to the “Leaders of Transformation: China” program. PROGorod, an urban development institute under VEB.RF, advances sustainable planning and city development to improve quality of life across Russian cities. The program aimed to deepen their understanding of China’s market dynamics.
The day started with a briefing on China’s business environment. Mr. CHANG Ka Mun, Director of the HKUST Li & Fung Supply Chain Institute, and Managing Director of Li & Fung Development (China) Limited, shared a practical view of the challenges, opportunities, and outlook for doing business in China. It was followed by a session on public-private partnerships in China, led by Prof. ZHANG Xueqing from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to knowledge transfer and technology commercialization. Dr. Carol LI, Head (Materials and Sustainable Technologies), the Office of Knowledge Transfer, outlined HKUST’s approach to turning research into real-world impact, highlighting successful commercialization cases.
Prof. SUN Qingping, Chair Professor of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Prof. SHAO Minhua, Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, showcased advances in zero-carbon solid-state cooling technology and hydrogen and battery energy storage. The program concluded with visits to the HKUST Energy Institute and the Zero Carbon Solid-state Cooling Technology Laboratory, giving the executives a close-up view of emerging technologies.
