Members of our school community joined a fireside chat titled “A New Horizon: Welcoming Dean Frederik Anseel” to warmly welcome new school dean and enjoy an engaging networking session.
Members of the HKUST Business School Advisory Council, together with School leaders and faculty, extend a warm welcome to Dean ANSEEL.
In conversation with Prof. Stephen SHIH, Dean Anseel shared his perspectives on leading the School, while responding to diverse topics raised by participants. Highlights of his insights:
- From his initial weeks at the School, he was impressed by its “fabulous network of committed alumni and business partners.” He encouraged the community to shape the School’s future together, remarking: It takes a village to raise a child, and a whole community to raise a business school.
- An expert in leadership and learning, Dean Anseel emphasized that a person’s identity is shaped “by doing different things and reflecting on experiences.” He stressed that education should create such opportunities and support students’ interpretations, rather than imposing predefined identities.
- Reflecting on AI’s impact on future careers, he noted that true value in the job market lies not in technical or mathematical skills alone, but in the power of social skills.
