Shedding Light on the Future of Food Robotics
In this year’s World Food Tech 2025 Conference held in Korea, Prof. LEE Dongwon from the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management presented his insights on food robotics. He emphasized that food robotics must move beyond rule-based automation to intelligent systems capable of learning and adapting.

Highlighting robots across the food value chain—from pesticide drones and harvesting machines to serving and dishwashing systems—Prof. Lee noted that tasks like boiling ramen remain challenging due to irregular environments and hygiene regulations. He introduced “physical AI,” a solution which integrates vision, touch, and smell, allowing robots to adapt to real-world variability. Despite current limitations, such as opening water bottles, he concluded that tackling these challenges step by step will bring physical AI closer to practical reality.
