Organized by the Fintech and Green Finance Projects and sponsored by HSBC, HKUST Fintechstic 2022 (“Fintechstic”) successfully concluded in November. Featuring the theme “NFTs and the Metaverse”, the six-weeklong event offered activities that provided divine recourses and an excellent platform to bridge the industry and future fintech talent.
Close to 600 university students joined the seven online workshops with esteemed speakers from the local Web3 community, and learned about the NFT and Metaverse landscape, the development and application of blockchain technology, future technology for the financial industry, and more.
More than 170 students forming 50 teams participated in the Student Competition. After some intense battles on the Final Pitch Day, two winning teams were selected and entitled to cash prizes and fast-track internship interview opportunities:
Associate Dean (Undergraduates) Prof. Allen HUANG (left) presented the prize to the Champion Team – MetaFirst. Formed by students from HKUST and HKU, the team commented, “We were able to connect with different mentors and industry professionals through this Fintechstic event, and they provided a lot of support and amazing advice that set us to success.”
Head of Fintech, InvestHK, Mr. King LEUNG (left), presented the runner-up prize to Team BroCode. Consisted of three HKUST students, the group remarked that, apart from learning the best from the professionals, great teamwork was another key to their fantastic performance and results.

Fintechstic also brought fintech education to the public through the Online Trivia, where about 3,000 participants tested their NFT and metaverse knowledge.
