The Department of Economics (ECON) and the Center for Economic Policy (CEP) jointly organized the first ever ECON-CEP UG Virtual Research Showcase in June. The event provided a stage for the high-quality research undertaken by our undergraduate students through the ECON 4670 Research and Communication Course, UROP projects, and CEP student research internships. Professor LIM Wooyoung, UG Programs Coordinator of Department of Economics, and Professor Sujata VISARIA, Director of Center for Economic Policy were the hosts of the event, attended by 15 faculty members.
The event opened with welcoming remarks by Professor David COOK, Head of Department of Economics. Nine students, including FANG Yuhan, TANG Tsz Yeung Alvis, Sneha PURI, SONG Xiaolong, NAM Yebin, CHAN Cheuk Yin Rudolph, YU Yue, LEUNG Ho Long Horus, and LEUNG Hin Hei Anthony, presented their research and responded to questions from faculty members. Horus received the first prize for his presentation entitled Evaluating the Value of Mass Transit Railway to Housing Premium: An Empirical Analysis of the Hong Kong Housing Market. Rudolph and Yu were named the first runner-up for their presentation entitled Firms in Globalization: Evidence from China -- Markups, Productivity, and Export Premium.
