On November 17, HKUST celebrated the opening of the Shaw Auditorium – a brand new hall with state-of-the-art facilities supported by a generous donation from the Shaw Foundation Hong Kong (SFHK). This new landmark is set to turn HKUST into an arts and culture hub that offers a new place of learning and gathering for the community and expand our humanistic and creative development of the University and its surrounding environment. The officiating ceremony gathered over 500 guests and was concluded with an opening concert performed by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. This tremendous occasion also marked the beginning of HKUST’s 30th-anniversary celebration.

A week after the Shaw Auditorium opened, HKUST held a university-wide Conferment Ceremony and a PhD Graduation Ceremony on November 26. Meanwhile, six program and department-specific graduation ceremonies from the Business School were held at the Shaw Auditorium over the weekend of November 27 to 28. The events have been the first in-person congregation ceremonies since the COVID-19 outbreak, welcoming 1,000 business graduates and 1,500 guests back on campus.

During the Dean’s address, Professor TAM encouraged graduates to embrace changes with confidence and seize opportunities amidst various challenges: “You have adapted to new ways of learning and working in business. You have now become a part of the force behind these new ways of living and advancement in the world. These changes are challenging yet promising for you.”

Graduates also enjoyed taking photos at the beautifully designed backdrop and decorations at the Lee Shau Kee Business Building. Our warmest congratulations to the Class of 2021!
