Earlier this year, the HKUST EMBA Program Office held two online events under the new series “Cutting-edge Research in Business Studies (商学前)” to share the latest faculty research with business leaders of the EMBA program.

The events featured two professors who were awarded the Liwei Huang Professorship in Business – Professor Abhiroop MUKHERJEE shared his research topic “Alternative Data: Can Technology Make Us Less Reliant on Official Data?” and Professor Sam GARG spoke about his research topic “Effective CEO-Board Collaboration in High-Growth Entrepreneurial Firms.”

Professor Mukherjee’s research findings sparked much inspiration among the audience, providing innovative ways to analyze problems and identifying potential to develop new strategies using alternative data sources. Professor Garg’s presentation also set off great interest as he identified an effective flow in the strategy development process and how these concepts could be applied in other business scenarios. His research also provided an alternative view on effective communication between C-suite executives and the board.

Mr HUANG Liwei, donor of the Liwei Huang Professorship in Business, also participated as a guest speaker and shard his experience with our students and alumni.
