Jointly offered by the Schools of Business, Engineering and Science for the first time, the new MSc in Fintech Program was officially launched in August. To mark this meaningful milestone, a fintech symposium was held on August 17, with an audience consisting of the new class and industry practitioners.

The symposium featured a panel of financial experts: Prof KC CHAN, Chairman and Senior Advisor of WeLab and three HKUST alumni including Christine IP, CEO (Greater China) of United Overseas Bank; Arthur YUEN, Deputy Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority; and Simon YOUNG, Chief Compliance Officer-Overseas of Ping An Group. According to the panel, virtual banks and traditional banks can co-exist, while facilitating financial innovation and enhancing customer experience.

Moderated by Chair Prof HUI Kai Lung, the panel exhibited our strong faculty and alumni network in both the finance and technology sectors. The panel applauded the new program, highlighting how graduates would be able to address Hong Kong’s shortage of fintech professionals.

The new MSc in Fintech Program is designed to provide participants with knowledge and skills related to the latest and most popular financial technologies, including AI, blockchain, big data, cloud computing, P2P, e-payment and online lending. The Program reflects the interdisciplinary nature of fintech and the strength of HKUST.
