New Master’s Programs Focus on Family office and Cybersecurity Management
New developments relating to HKUST MSc programs were featured in Sing Tao Daily, HK01, Headline, HKET, HKET 2 and Ming Pao. The School will launch two new master’s programs in the 2025/26 academic year: MSc in Family office and Family Business, and MSc in Information and Cybersecurity Management. Acting Dean Prof. HUI Kai-Lung said that local family leaders will be invited as guests to share their experiences in managing family office challenges. Regarding the handling of applications with fake qualifications, he said that all fraudulent applications were identified in the early stages, and no one has successfully enrolled in the school’s programs using fraudulent documents. Chris TSANG, MSc Program Director, said that with the opening of the MSc learning Hub, some courses will be offered at the new teaching facility.

HKUST and HKUST(GZ) Unite for HK Green Finance Boost
HKUST and HKUST(GZ) jointly published a research report series titled “HK Green Finance Policy Research Series”, analyzing the city’s progress and outlining steps to enhance its role as a green finance leader. HKUST Vice-President for Administration and Business Prof. TAM Kar-Yan said that the collaborative research offers crucial insights on positioning HK as a leading green finance center. By leveraging the expertise and perspectives of stakeholders across the region, the University aims to build robust foundations for green finance in HK and the GBA.

Sharing Insights on AI Development and Online Negotiations
HKUST VPAB Prof. Tam Kar-Yan said in a feature story of TVB‘s weekly finance news program that the InvestLM Generative AI Platform developed by the School is specifically designed for the financial industry, allowing it to more effectively address questions related to this sector. He hopes that various stakeholders will collaborate to train professionals and enhance the overall expertise within the industry.
Momentum, the official magazine of the Chamber of Hong Kong Listed Companies, published an article on balancing the risks and rewards of AI, in which Assoc. Dean Prof. Allen HUANG shared his insights on the advantages and disadvantages for HK in advancing the AI development.
Research by Asst. Prof. Martha JEONG, Department of Management was featured in Wen Wei Po report series on the science of success. The study has found that, compared with shoppers who are polite and give positive comments to merchants, those who use tough and direct language can ultimately pay 12% less. More importantly, the latter group has almost a 50% chance of getting a bargain from merchants.
