HKUST’s InvestLM Generative AI Model for Financial Services Industry

Various media reported on the government’s policy statement on the responsible application of AI in the financial market, which mentioned HKUST’s plan to make its self-developed AI model available for use by the city's financial services industry. HKUST Vice-President for Administration and Business Prof. TAM Kar-Yan said that InvestLM, developed by the School, is the first open-source large language model (LLM) for financial GenAI applications in HK. The University will soon offer a web-based interactive GenAI service for users of registered financial firms. Assoc. Prof. YANG Yi, Department of ISOM, revealed that InvestLM’s responses have been rated as comparable to those of state-of-the-art general-purpose LLMs by financial experts, recognizing InvestLM’s strong capabilities in understanding and processing financial texts for finance and investment-specific tasks.
