The "Wisers-HKUST Tourism Index" aims to aid Hong Kong's tourism recovery with big data analysis and social media metrics. Over 10 million data from topical social media like Sina Weibo, Baidu Tieba, TikTok, Xiaohongshui, etc., are collected to analyse the six crucial factors affecting tourism, including ways of visit, local attractions and other factors.

The resulting index, comprising "Number of Visitors," "Hotel Occupancy Rate," and "Hotel Prices," acts as a valuable reference for businesses and policy planners. A composite index was also created with the data from January 2018 to March 2023, offering insights into Hong Kong's tourism market trends. The monthly updates serve as a key resource for businesses, enabling effective planning and strategic decision-making.

This forward-looking Tourism Index contributes significantly to Hong Kong's tourism industry revitalization efforts and is crucial for economic recovery and employment generation in the region.
