Various media including , Riau green, HK Business Times, and 今日時事 reported the Business School’s partnership with Mead Johnson Nutrition Hong Kong to nurture business talent via the School’s “Corporate Project” Scheme. Prof. Veronique LAFON-VINAIS, Executive Director (Career Development and Corporate Outreach), said this partnership provided opportunities for undergraduate students to apply knowledge and skills into practice.

Ming Pao featured an interview with business school alumna Queenie SOO, the elder sister of Olympic table tennis bronze medalist, on her success story in founding a start-up to connect local athletes with event and advertisement opportunities. She also shared how her internship experience inspired her entrepreneurship.

Fintech Sets New Trends in Business Education

A supplement in SCMP zoomed in HKUST’s MSc in Fintech program. Senior Associate Dean Prof. HUI Kai-Lung said that the program is designed for working professionals who want to combine technical and financial knowledge to generate innovative solutions that meet the challenges of the emerging field. The Standard also featured the program’s curriculum, career prospects and alumni community in an article.

Associate Dean (UG Programs) Prof. Allen HUANG, wrote about how the enhanced blockchain technology and AI opened the future of metaverse (February 17) and the privacy concern in metaverse (February 26) in HK Economic Times.

Widening Academic Performance Gap during Pandemic (February 24)
The Korea Bizwire and KBS World featured a research co-conducted by Associate Prof. Hyuncheol Bryant KIM (Department of Economics) and Yonsei University on the academic performance of students in high and low academic ranks in Korean high schools. The study found a widening academic achievement gap during pandemic as in-person class hours at schools had been reduced.

Sino-US Trade Relations (February 9 & 23)
BBC News Chinese cited comments by Chair Prof. Albert PARK, Department of Economics, on articles about Sino-US economic and trade relations. He said passing the subsidy bill for US’s semiconductor and automotive manufacturing industries would reduce its bargaining power in the trade negotiation (February 9). He further commented that the US President Joe BIDEN does not have any political reason to take a softer stance towards China than his predecessor Donald TRUMP did (February 23).

FT Global MBA Ranking (February 16, 17, 18 and 19)
Different news portal such as Business Tech, The Bharat Express News, Poets & Quants, TOPick, HK Economic Times, Sing Tao Daily and Bastille Post, reported HKUST MBA remained the 1st in Hong Kong in the latest Financial Times (FT) Global MBA Ranking.

Succession-planning in Family Businesses (February 16, 17 and 18)
The Age, Business Standard, NDTV and Bloomberg Quint mentioned comments by Prof. Winnie PENG, Director of Tanoto Center for Asian Family Business and Entrepreneurship Studies, on family businesses of the late Macau gambling tycoon Stanley HO. She said it was wise to keep only a few offspring in the core business and let the rest seek their own paths.

Jargons and Buzzwords (February 17)
Newsday cited comments by Assistant Prof. Zachariah BROWN, Department of Management, in an article on the use of jargons and buzzwords. He said jargons could establish credibility and serve as a status signal for people to feel they were part of the group. However, it could lead to miscommunication or be perceived as annoying when misused.

Renminbi Internationalization (February 16)
HK01 featured the new book “One Currency, Two Markets: China’s Attempt to Internationalize the Renminbi” written by Prof. Edwin LAI, Department of Economics. Prof LAI said in an interview that Chinese yuan would be the top three global payment currency by 2030 if China relaxed capital control.

Assistant Prof. Deniz OKAT (Department of Finance), a Turkish student Emre Can AYDOGMUS, and alumnus Benan YILDIRIM were being featured in a number of Turkey news portals including Fluublog.com, Gezmelerdeyim.com, Öğretmenim Dergisi, Tekno Safari, MaxiHaber, Teknotakip.com, CIO Update Mag, Ebeveynus, IT Network, Dijikolog.com, Ekonomiknokta.com, Enterprise Next, EgiTiM Bulteni, Time Turk, Donanimhaber, Or6.net and BThaber.
