HKUST Pioneers with HKEX in Sustainable Finance Education

Various media including , Headline Daily, Mirage news, Wen Wei Po, Ta Kung Pao, Bastille Post, Jornal Va Kio and HK Economic Times reported the HKUST Business School’s partnership with HKEX to launch a new MBA elective on “Sustainable Finance with Busin0ess Practices”. HKUST is the first university in Asia to forge a partnership with HKEX in offering executive education in the related field.

Faculty Named RGC Senior Research Fellow

HK Economic Times carried a supplement featuring Chair Prof. CHEN Songnian, Department of Economics, who has been named among the awardees of the Senior Research Fellow Scheme of the Research Grants Council (RGC). It mentioned Prof CHEN’s research project “Quantile Regression Subject to Sample Selection with Continuous and Binary Outcomes” has received funding from the Fellow Scheme – which is awarded to only ten professors in Hong Kong each year.

Sing Tao Daily in an article on blockchain technology cited Associate Prof. Allen HUANG, Department of Accounting, saying that the tech is best applied in the finance industry as the transaction volume in the industry is big. He also said that the application of the blockchain tech around the world is still in the exploration stage.

He explained who the major players in the NFT market are, adding that the inadequate inspection of the market makes it susceptible to insider dealing, money laundering, and other illegal deeds.

Bloomberg and Times of India cited comments by Prof. Winnie PENG, Director of Tanoto Center for Asian Family Business and Entrepreneurship Studies, on articles about the succession of Ambani – the richest family in Asia. She said its succession story is very inspiring on the transfer of family wealth and power.

HK Sandwiches Between the US and China (November 22 & 23)
Emeritus Prof. Francis LUI, Department of Economics, wrote in Speakout (Nov 23) on the qualities that HK leaders should have helped the city in maintaining its status as an international financial center. He also shared his view on how the meeting between Chinese and US Presidents impacts the cross-strait situation in a Speakout (Nov 22).
