As Hong Kong strives for carbon neutrality, HKUST Fintechstic, the annual fintech education event organized by the Business School of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) in celebration of the Hong Kong FinTech Week, has engaged participants to explore the topic of achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) through financial innovation. Over 250 students from local universities registered for the student competition and demonstrated their innovative fintech ideas, while the online trivia has attracted the participation of over 3,300 members of the public to learn about green finance. This year’s event has also featured educational webinars to share industry insights with attendees from the tertiary education sector and beyond.

Through the educational webinars, the student competition has provided the contesting teams with the knowledge to tackle business challenges related to green finance and digital assets. A team of three students from HKUST has been named the champion, winning a cash prize of $12,000 and consultation session by the HKUST Impact Ventures Program. As the competition serves as the student track of the TADS Awards, they will join the global industry award recipients at the upcoming presentation ceremony of TADS Awards, which honors contributions and achievements in the tokenized assets and digital securities (TADS) sector.

Professor TAM Kar Yan, Dean of HKUST Business School, says, “As an educational event for tertiary students and the wider public, Fintechstic has sparked interest and awareness and promoted skill sharing in the fast-emerging fintech field. This year’s theme has guided participants to navigate the crossroads between green finance and digital assets – two of the hottest topics in the finance industry in Hong Kong. We are very grateful to our industry partners for making this event possible."

Supporting organizations of HKUST Fintechstic include Association of Family Offices in Asia, C Capital, CGS International Holdings Limited, Coinstreet, HashKey Tokenisation, Hong Kong Fintech Industry Association, Invest Hong Kong, Moon Lab, and MSCI.
