Innovative business ideas embracing cutting-edge technologies had been paraded at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from May 3-5. A team of three students from University of California, Berkeley took home the champion trophy.
The runners-up were University of Michigan, University of Oregon and University of Waterloo. The University of Waterloo also got the Elevator Pitch Competition Championship.
Organized by the HKUST Business School, "The HKUST International Business Plan Competition", is one the world's leading graduate student entrepreneurial events. During the competition, graduate student entrepreneurs from top universities from around the world pitch their business plans to leading Hong Kong executives and professional investors.
The innovative business propositions range from a new technology to improve the delivery of radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer, enhances enzymes to work in harsh environment for medication, technology to extract energy from water currents. Thirteen teams of graduate student entrepreneurs competed for US $25,000 in cash prizes and potential investment interest from among the judges.
The teams arrived on Thursday 3 May, and displayed their products and briefly pitched their business plans on Friday 4 May. The finals challenge held on Saturday 5 May.
