The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's School of Business and Management (HKUST Business School) and Reuters today jointly opened an upgraded Financial Trading Laboratory at the School which features Reuters 3000 Xtra, a high-speed, integrated information and transaction service and Reuters Knowledge, an advanced research and buy-side analysis solution for portfolio managers and analysts valued at HK$8 million, with 35 units of HP Compaq Business Desktop PCs sponsored by Hewlett-Packard.
Professor K.C. Chan, Dean of the HKUST Business School, Kenneth Tsui, Managing Director of Reuters North Asia and Felix See, Managing Director, Hewlett-Packard HK SAR Ltd. celebrated the unveiling of the new facilities with professors and students at a ceremony on the HKUST Campus today.
The new Financial Trading laboratory aims to bring real-life financial operation training to HKUST business students. Reuters curriculum and certification programs are expected to be offered to students with the new facilities. Such programs are usually only available to people working in the finance industries rather then to students.
Dean K.C. Chan of the HKUST Business School said, "The establishment of the Financial Trading Laboratory will benefit the School's students, allow the School to launch a new range of initiatives to enhance students' learning experience and increase their exposure to the financial-trading field. The training will no doubt give our students a head start, especially those who would like to go into the finance industry."
"We are glad to have this partnership opportunity with the HKUST Business School in support of its ambition to be one of the world's premier research centers. We are confident that the provision of Reuters premium desktop services and Reuters Academy training services will contribute to the development of talent for the financial industry," said Kenneth Tsui, Managing Director of Reuters North Asia.
In addition to the upgrading of the laboratory, the HKUST Business School and Reuters intend to further deepen their collaboration by organizing joint seminars across the region to bring cutting-edge financial knowledge to practitioners. Reuters will also support the research activities of HKUST business professors by providing them with access to Reuters databases.
