The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's School of Business and Management (HKUST Business School) has been ranked first in the Asia Pacific in the Financial Times (FT) annual global rankings for non-degree executive education in custom programs. This is the third year in a row that HKUST has attained the top position in the region.
HKUST is the only school from Asia listed in the ranking. It placed at No. 27 among the world's best executive education providers, same as last year.

Dean K.C. Chan of the HKUST Business School is pleased with the positive recognition provided to the School. "We have been doing very well in major international rankings for MBA, EMBA, and Executive Education programs. These rankings are like customer satisfaction surveys as they reflect the views of alumni, employers and students. I'm gratified to see that we receive high praise from these constituencies."
Betty Lau, Director of Executive Programs, said: "Our programs target senior executives who are very demanding and have high expectations. The FT survey confirms that we have done well in serving the needs of our students and the companies that hire them."
Schools need to conduct US$2 million of business a year to participate in the FT rankings on custom programs that are tailor-made for companies to develop and train their executives. A total of 58 business schools were eligible to participate in this year's survey. Only 50 schools were ranked. HKUST is the only Asian institution making the top-50. Other schools in the ranking include 24 schools from North America, 20 from Europe, three from South America, one each from Australia and Mexico.
The FT custom program ranking is determined by two surveys. The first survey (80% weighting) measures the responses provided by top corporate purchasers (usually a chief executive or human resources director). For this survey, 445 custom program purchasers were interviewed. The second survey (20% weighting) evaluates the strength and diversity of the participating schools.
The "Faculty Diversity" of the HKUST Business School is rated No. 1 in the world. It ranks 14th in terms of "International Clients", reflecting that its programs attracted a high proportion of patrons from multinational companies.
The FT survey evaluates programs conducted in the year 2004. During that year, the HKUST Business School organized custom programs for 39 companies and organizations, of which, 43% are based outside of Hong Kong and the mainland.
