Excellence took center stage as 138 outstanding students and graduates were inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) HKUST Chapter at the 23rd Induction Ceremony.
Led by Chapter President Dean Frederik ANSEEL, the ceremony celebrated “a group of dedicated students and graduates who uphold the fine tradition of HKUST and the international honor society, Beta Gamma Sigma.”
Dean Anseel (pictured middle), together with Chapter Advisors Prof. KOH Tat Koon (left) and Prof. ZHENG Rong (right), encouraged new members to uphold the BGS values of honor (Beta), wisdom (Gamma), and earnestness (Sigma).
Each year, a distinguished leader is appointed as Chapter Honoree in recognition of their professional achievements and leadership, serving as a role model in exemplifying the BGS values. This year, Ms. Bonnie CHAN, Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, was named Chapter Honoree for her leadership in global capital markets and contributions to advancing Hong Kong as an international financial hub.
In her speech, Ms. Chan shared reflections drawn from her own experience, highlighting the importance of building resilience by embracing challenges, approaching career opportunities with a “why not?” mindset, and leading authentically. She added that effective leadership can take many forms, and that being genuine and human can inspire trust, unity, and stronger teams, especially in difficult times.
Ms. Bonnie Chan receives a commemorative plaque from Dean Anseel in recognizing her contributions.
By invitation only, BGS membership is reserved for top academic achievers from AACSB accredited business schools worldwide. Learn more about this year’s HKUST Chapter honoree and inductees.
