GBUS Anniversary – Celebrating 25 Years of Excellence

The BBA in Global Business (GBUS) program celebrated its 25th anniversary with a memorable cocktail party, bringing together over 160 guests including alumni, current students, faculty, and long-standing corporate partners.

The evening was a heartfelt tribute to the vibrant journey and achievements of the GBUS community over the past quarter-century. The celebration featured a Faculty Recognition Award session, honouring the dedicated program directors and professors who have been instrumental in shaping the program’s legacy. Guests were also treated to a captivating live performance by a talented GBUS student, showcasing the creativity and spirit that define our community.

One of the event’s highlights was a nostalgic photo video showcase, where participants revisited deeply cherished memories through a visual timeline of cohort photos spanning 25 years. Laughter, stories, and reconnections filled the room, reflecting the strong bonds within our GBUS family. Celebrating this important milestone, we extend our gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the program’s success.

MSc Alumni Lunch – A Glamorous Afternoon in 1930s Shanghai

Our MSc alumni community in Shanghai gathered for a unique and memorable lunch event that transported them back to the golden age of 1930s Shanghai. The gathering offered a nostalgic experience that blended cultural flair with meaningful alumni engagement and connection.

The afternoon commenced with opening remarks from Mr. Chris TSANG, Assistant Dean (Administration) and MSc Program Director, who warmly welcomed alumni and shared updates on the MSc programs. We were also honored by the presence of Mr. Fabrice FISCHER, Adjunct Faculty, and Ms. Salad KWOK, Head of MSc Programs, whose support added great significance to the occasion.

Alumni dressed in exquisite period costumes and enjoyed professional makeup styling, allowing them to fully immerse in the glamour of the time.

Throughout the lunch, guests were treated to captivating live performances of singing and dancing. Alumni enjoyed reconnecting with peers, sharing laughter, and capturing countless photos in their elegant vintage attire, creating lasting memories in a truly picturesque setting.

The event was a celebration not only of the timeless allure of 1930s Shanghai, but also of the enduring spirit of the HKUST alumni network.

RMBI Mentorship Dinner – A Celebration of Community and Growth

The BSc in Risk Management and Business Intelligence (RMBI) program hosted its annual mentorship dinner. The event welcomed 55 mentors including 38 alumni, and 65 mentees for an evening of connection, learning, and celebration.

The relationships formed among the RMBI community will continue to grow, enriching the personal and professional paths of all involved.

Faculty members, corporate mentors, alumni mentors, and students came together to mark the beginning of a new mentorship journey. The evening featured lively conversations, interactive games, and thoughtful exchanges on personal growth and professional aspirations.

With over 120 participants, the dinner showcased the strength of the RMBI community and the value of mentorship. The enthusiasm and dedication of all participants created a warm and inspiring atmosphere that will carry forward throughout the year.

MSc Econ New Cohort Gathering – Strengthening Connections

The MSc in Economics program hosted its new cohort gathering — an evening for faculty and students to celebrate, share stories and enjoy a buffet dinner.

Opening remarks by Prof. LIM Wooyoung, Head of the Department of Economics, and Prof. WANG Peng, Academic Director of MSc in Economics, set a warm and engaging tone.

A highlight of the night was a fireside chat moderated by Prof. HE Dean, Associate Director of MSc in Economics, featuring Prof. Lisa SACHS, Director of Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment, Columbia University. The evening closed with strengthened faculty–student connections, highlighting the program’s dedication to excellence and community.

Prof. Sachs shared insights on sustainable finance in economic fundamental, reminding participants that effective financial strategies must begin with a clear understanding of the economic problems they aim to solve.
