HKUST Business School was delighted to be a co-organizer of a talk themed “Sustainable Development in Hong Kong and East Asia” conducted by renowned economist and leader in sustainable development - Prof. Jeffrey D. SACHS. Organized by the Hong Kong Association of External Friendship (HKAEF), the event brought together over 300 participants to share expert insights into the theme.
During the event, Prof. Sachs emphasized Hong Kong’s robust common law framework, deep integration with the international financial and trading systems, and its partnership with other cities in the Greater Bay Area. He also underscored Hong Kong’s potential to contribute to global financial innovation and sustainable development. He further pointed to the move towards a multi-currency system, in which digital currencies and the Renminbi will play much larger roles.
Following the keynote address, a panel discussion featured Prof. Sachs (second right); Prof. HUI Kai-Lung, Acting Dean of HKUST Business School (first right); and Prof. Priscilla LEUNG Mei-Fun, Founding President of HKAEF (second left). Moderated by Mr. Laurence LI, Senior Counsel of Temple Chambers (first left), the panel saw a dynamic dialogue on Hong Kong’s unique position and possible actions to capitalize on the shifting global landscape. The session offered inspiring insights into shaping a more sustainable and interconnected future.
