Recently, the Roger King Center for Asian Family Business and Family Office successfully conducted the new module of its signature program, “HKUST Global Family Leader Succession Program: Family Succession: Failure and Lesson”.

The exclusive program on family succession failure cases brought together multi-generational family members worldwide, including Hong Kong, Mainland China, South Korea, the Middle East, and Germany, among others. The Center’s Senior Advisor, Prof. Roger KING, and Director, Prof. Winnie PENG, shared their original research and case studies that addressed the practical succession issues faced by Asian family businesses. The Center also invited members from legendary families, including Mr. David LEE, Director of Lee Kum Kee Group, to share their extremely valuable lessons. Global family participants also exchanged experiences during the three-day training.

The program garnered overwhelmingly positive responses:

A second-generation member of a Hong Kong family and Managing Director of a Single Family Office remarked, “The program is exceptional. Family members from diverse backgrounds share their personal challenges and emotional journeys related to succession, leaving a profound impact on me. The practical case studies stimulate participants to consider potential issues from various perspectives. I highly recommend attending with two generations for meaningful joint discussions.”

The founder of a Mainland family business said, “This is my first experience with such a program, and I find it incredibly beneficial. I have learned from vivid real-life cases and engaged in discussions about inheritance plans, where diverse perspectives emerged. The program is thoughtfully designed and truly rewarding, providing me with insights that I can apply in my own business and family dynamics.”

A second-generation member of a German family stated, “I am honored to learn from leading business figures and to connect with fellow participants from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Japan, and beyond. This program has been invaluable in helping me understand the strategic importance of family in succession planning and managing wealth across generations."
