Academics coming together to exchange ideas is essential for sparking innovations and enhancing the quality of research.

Forum for Management Scholars in Asia

The Department of Management hosted the 7th Asian Management Research Consortium (AMRC) in May. This two-day annual event attracted some 90 participants from a collaborative network of leading business schools and research institutions across Asia to exchange ideas and research findings in management and organizational studies.

In addition to regular paper sessions, the event featured a doctoral consortium and a keynote speech by Prof. QU Huamin (left photo), Chair Professor from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at HKUST, shedding light on creativity, innovation, and AI. An engaging closing plenary on “Doing Management Research in Asia” also created thoughtful dialogues.

PhD Student Conference Creates a Valuable Learning Experience

The HKUST Business School PhD Program hosted its third annual student conference with a showcase of 15 presentations by students from various Departments of the School.

To encourage cross-disciplinary interaction, a student discussant from a different department was assigned to each presentation. These discussants helped make the sessions more engaging and accessible to a broader business audience. In addition, the cross-disciplinary format sparked unexpected questions and fresh perspectives, offering valuable feedback that helped presenters refine their research and future presentations.

The conference attracted participants from undergraduate and master’s programs, including those from non-business disciplines, as well as industry practitioners. Faculty members also raised questions and offered suggestions to the presenters.
