Our faculty and students from the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics, and Operations Management and the Department of Management have recently earned prestigious honors at international academic conferences.

Professor Won Design Science Award

Lee Heng Fellow, Associate Professor YANG Yi (middle in photo) of the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics, and Operations Management received the INFORMS ISS Design Science Award 2023 at the Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems 2024 in Bangkok. The award recognizes innovative research efforts with an emphasis on practical impacts, highlighting the creation and evaluation of novel IT artifacts designed to address significant organizational problems.

Students Won Best Paper Awards

PhD student Oliver WEI (right in photo) won the Best Student Paper Award at the Workshop on Information Systems and Economics 2024 for his paper titled “The Impact of AI Summaries on Video Platforms' Creators and Viewers: A Vicious Cycle”. Co-authored with PhD graduate Dr. ZHOU Jiali, the paper discussed that the roll-out of AI summary features on video-sharing platforms has a mixed impact on both creators and viewers. It suggests that platform owners should be cautious about implementing AI summaries to follow trends and consider the potential consequences of such features. This paper was produced under the supervision of Associate Professor HONG Weiyin of the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics, and Operations Management, and Acting Dean of HKUST Business School Prof. HUI Kai-Lung.

PhD student RHEE Changjoon co-authored a paper titled “Remedies for Growing Pains: How Venture Leaders Management Stalemates when Scaling Senior Exec Teams” which was named the Best Paper Award at the India Strategy Conference (Entrepreneurship and Family Business track). The award is sponsored by the Strategic Management division of the Academy of Management - the largest association of strategic management scholars in the world.
