The HKUST Center for Business and Social Analytics, in collaboration with the Investor and Financial Education Council and Cyberport Hong Kong, hosted a Web3 workshop in December. Some 60 enthusiastic local university students dived into the world of Web3, AI, and blockchain technology, and learned insights from industry experts, including:
- Dr. DONG Mo - CEO & Co-Founder, Celer and Brevis
- Mr. Hillman TAM - Founder & Technical Director, Octopus InfoTech
- Dr. Charleston SIN - Executive Director, mCommerce Online; Co-Founder, Peach Bioverse
- Prof. KOH Tat Koon - Associate Professor of Information Systems, HKUST Business School

During the workshop, the speakers discussed complex topics such as cryptocurrencies and smart contracts, while also addressed critical security considerations. They further delved into key principles of design thinking in the GenAI era, highlighting the importance of value propositions and offering practical guidance on validating problem statements.

Participating students were also invited to form teams to enter the 2025 Hong Kong Web3 Ideathon, in which they could pitch proposals that leverage Web3 technology to address key challenges across three tracks: financial inclusion and empowerment, sustainable development, and community and social impact.
