The MSc Alumni Hutong Reunion in Beijing in May was an outstanding success. The event created a warm and intimate atmosphere, allowing MSc alumni and new intake students to network and forge new connections. Taking place in the captivating surroundings of the former residence of Mei LanFang, nestled within a historically significant Beijing’s Hutong, the evening featured a distinctive and unforgettable experience for all participants.

The evening began with opening remarks by the Assistant Dean (Administration) and MSc Program Director, Mr. Chris TSANG, who welcomed guests and set the tone for the evening. Prof. Lucy XIA, from the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics, and Operations Management (ISOM) as our esteemed guest speaker shared her valuable insights and discussed the funding aspects of her recent research. The audience was inspired by her expertise and knowledge, realizing the various opportunities they could pursue using the business knowledge they acquired at HKUST.

After savoring a delightful traditional Chinese cuisine, alumni and new students engaged in a lively game called “Get to Know Alma Mater”. This game allowed the alumni to share their cherished memories at HKUST and the new students to know better the University. It provided a glimpse into the exciting journey at HKUST.

The Hutong Reunion event created a cozy and intimate atmosphere, allowing our guests to reconnect with old friends and forge new connections. It also provided a unique opportunity for participants to appreciate the stunning scenery of the Hutong, while networking with fellow alumni. The dinner and Hutong experience created a truly memorable and enjoyable event for all guests.


Each alumnus and new student received a succulent plant, symbolizing the rich growth they have experienced at HKUST and beyond. The MSc Programs Office is committed to organizing various engaging events in the future to strengthen the community.
