The HKUST Global Business (GBUS) Program provides students with unique international experiences through its annual overseas study trips. In June, the Program organized a trip to Tokyo for 29 students, where they explored Japanese business and industry, made connections with HKUST’s partner institution, and immersed themselves in the city's landscape and culture.

Expanding Business Horizons

The group visited the Tokyo Stock Exchange headquarters, learning about the exchange’s history and the Japanese economy. They also engaged in a stock investment simulation experience. The students toured two major Japanese corporations - Asahi, a leading beverage company, and Panasonic, a global electronics giant. At Asahi, they learned about the company’s history and market dominance. The visit to Panasonic showcased the firm’s technological innovation and commitment to sustainability.

Connecting Like-minded Individuals

The students visited the Waseda University’s Global Management Program, participating in a case workshop by Prof. Jesper EDMAN and enjoying the networking dinner hosted by Prof. HIROTA Shinichi and Prof. YAGO Kazuhiko with their counterparts from the program.

Exploring City Landscape

The group’s cultural immersion extended to iconic Tokyo landmarks, including the Tokyo Skytree and Shibuya Sky. From the observation decks, they marvelled at the city’s scale and density. The students also explored the historic Asakusa district, experiencing the juxtaposition of Tokyo’s ancient traditions and modern innovations.

Through these diverse experiences, the GBUS students gained a deeper understanding of Japan's business, economy, and vibrant culture, broadening their global perspectives.
