Beijing Reunion Brimmed with Family Vibe

The HKUST Beijing Alumni Gathering was successfully held at the Hong Kong Jockey Club clubhouse in Beijing on March 3. It was a warm and relaxing reunion where alumni from all over the world gathered to catch up and learn about the latest and future developments of HKUST. The occasion brimmed with a close-knit HKUST family vibe.

The event received strong support from the university leaders, including HKUST Council Chairman Prof. Harry SHUM, President Prof. Nancy IP, and Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. WANG Yang.

On behalf of the Business School, Prof. HUI Kai Lung and Prof. FONG Yuk Fai joined a dinner with 40 alumni from different programs and exchanged friendly conversations, drawing a perfect end to the Beijing trip.

It was a great opportunity for our alumni to reconnect with their alma mater and strengthen their bonds with each other. The event was a resounding success, leaving all participants with fond memories and eager anticipation for the next gathering.

HKUST EMBA Public Lecture Explores AI

Also, in Beijing on the same day, the HKUST EMBA Program organized a public lecture on the topic of AI. The lecture has engaged over 100 HKUST EMBA alumni and other alumni of the Business School. Prof. FONG Yuk Fai, Associate Dean of HKUST Business School and Academic Director of the HKUST EMBA Program, and Prof. MA Wei-Ying, Huiyan Chair Professor and Chief Scientist of the Institute for AI Industry Research (AIR) of Tsinghua University, shed light on AI applications. Prof. HUI Kai Lung, Senior Associate Dean of HKUST Business School, also joined the discussion, whereas Ms. Shirley LUI, Head of the HKUST EMBA Program, moderated the lecture.

Prof. Fong (bottom right) delivered a speech on “Blue Ocean Strategy and AI Empowerment”, emphasizing the significance of targeting non-customers and utilizing differentiation advantages to explore new business frontiers. He showcased practical examples and highlighted the role of AI in understanding customer needs and finding blue ocean markets.

Prof. Ma (top right) discussed the relationship between AI and the new science, stating that redefining science offers significant opportunities for various industries. He shared examples from drug development to chemical materials, demonstrating the potential of AI in the new science.

The Q&A session further reflected the integration of business and technology, with both professors providing cutting-edge insights. Overall, the lecture provided EMBA alumni and other audiences with valuable business concepts and scientific perspectives.

Alumni Spring Dinner in Tokyo

We were grateful to see many smiling faces at the alumni event in Japan. It was a lovely evening filled with joy, laughter, and engaging conversations. Our alumni took the opportunity to expand their network, exchange experiences, and develop a strong sense of camaraderie over delicious food at an authentic izakaya!

HKUST-NYU Stern MSGF Alumni Reconnection in Hong Kong

As part of the regular alumni events, the HKUST-NYU Stern MS in Global Finance Program (MSGF) organized two memorable alumni lunch get-togethers in Hong Kong in March. The attendees had the chance to reconnect with former classmates and form new connections with alumni from various cohorts. Conveniently located in the central business districts, the events accommodated the hectic workday schedules of finance professionals, providing networking opportunities over a delightful lunch just a stroll away from their offices. HKUST Business School x HEC Paris Alumni Event – Navigating Challenges and Opportunities in a Sustainability World

The sustainability-focused enrichment event, jointly hosted with one of the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM) members, HEC Paris, concluded successfully! It brought together a diverse mix of alumni from both universities across various programs, cohorts, and industries to exchange knowledge and explore opportunities for sustainability in the rapidly evolving world.

During the event, several critical topics were discussed, such as the changing consumer behavior, the impact of digitalization and B Corp certification, the rise of ESG investing, and the ever-changing governance. We hope everyone gained inspiring insights and forged meaningful connections beyond the community.
