Over 70 undergraduate exchange students, both inbound and outbound, from the Business School gathered for a meaningful afternoon at the prestigious M+ Museum and the Xiqu Centre in the West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong. The February 24 visit offered a blend of business insights, cultural immersion, and bond-building experiences for the group.

M+ Museum stands as the largest and the newest contemporary art museum in Asia, showcasing masterpieces of modern Chinese art from the Sigg Collection as well as exhibits dedicated to the life and works of Madame Song who bridged high fashion and fabric art. The collection is truly a cultural embodiment of East meets West.

Highlights during the afternoon included an interesting talk by Ms. Wendy GAN, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (District Development) of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, who is also a Member of the HKUST Business School Advisory Council, and a captivating performance by the Xiqu Centre’s Tea House Troupe. All participants, abroad or local, were given the opportunity to sit in a modern recreation of a Tea House with small tables laden with Pu Er tea and dim sum, while watching entrancing classic Cantonese operas performed by young singers and musicians.

We are grateful to the West Kowloon Cultural District for collaborating with the Business School on the visit and also for the informative presentation on the business planning behind the creation of the district and their challenges. The impact of this visit on our students is profound as they have not only developed a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity, but also broadened their horizons and gained a global perspective, which will serve them well in their academic and professional endeavors.
