The Global Impact Valuation Sprint 2023 (the Sprint), hosted by the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship of Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and supported by the HKUST Business School and the Value Balancing Alliance, kicked off in mid-April 2023. This one-month sprint is a first-of-its-kind research across universities and organizations in the global sustainable finance scene.

Centered around the metrics of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), the Sprint brings together students from HKUST and Oxford to review the existing ESG impact valuation tools, enhance the systems and brainstorm new approaches for public policy and business practice.

In the virtual kick-off meeting, the Sprint connected student teams, academic and project team members from both universities, as well as a technical advisor from the global ESG standard-setter – Value Balancing Alliance. (Top row from left) Professor Christine LOH from Institute for the Environment of HKUST, Professor Alex NICHOLLS from the Skoll Centre of University of Oxford, and Dr. Dimitrij EULER, Head of Financial Markets of Value Balancing Alliance delivered keynotes to shed light on ESG impact valuation from policy and academic perspectives. They also unfolded areas for discussion and tasks for the teams in the coming month, where the teams will engage in weekly scrum meetings and focus group workshops on various topic areas.
