To shed light on topical issues of interest to the wider community, the School's faculty regularly shares their knowledge and insights with the public by contributing commentaries to the mass media. Hong Kong Economic Times (HKET) recently published two thought-provoking articles written respectively by Chair Professor LI Jiatao of the Department of Management, and Chair Professor HUI Kai-Lung of the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management (ISOM), on long-standing social issues underscored by the pandemic.

Noting that the community can do more to ameliorate wealth disparity, a social issue exacerbated by the pandemic, Prof. Li opined that compared to taxing the wealthy or transferring welfare, stemming the sources of inequalities in social mobility is a more fundamental solution to fight economic inequality.

On the other hand, Prof. Hui's article brought into focus the enormous opportunities highlighted by the pandemic in improving people's quality of life through technology applications from promoting telemedicine to closing the digital divide in e-commerce utilization and enhancing citizens' abilities to recognize information.
