It is typically assumed that family enterprises are challenged with ever-widening generation gaps as the next generation holds a different perspective about the world than the older ones.

During the Global Family Enterprise Webinar held on December 9, Professor Winnie PENG, Director of HKUST’s Tanoto Center for Asian Family Business and Entrepreneurship Studies, joined the presentation and the official release of the “Family Enterprise Global Survey on Generational Perspectives” whitepaper. The whitepaper found that current and next-generation family business owners could be much aligned in their family enterprise agenda.

The study was jointly conducted by the Tanoto Center, the John L. Ward Center for Family Enterprises at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University (USA), the Center of Family Businesses at the ESE Business School, the University of the Andes (Chile), ESADE (Spain), and Lansberg Gersick & Associates.

The study received 1,318 responses based on five main countries and 34 regions from various continents. Sponsored by Julius Baer, the publication evaluated generational differences and explored potential variations among regions. It also shed light on how the next generation can impact the course of business landscape globally as current or future owners or leaders of their companies.
