For the second consecutive year, the HKUST Business School’s Master of Science in International Management (MIMT) program has received the Top 3 “CEMS School of the Year Award 2021”. The award has reinforced our program’s reputation as one of the leading global master’s program in management.

The top three schools were chosen based on the results of overall student satisfaction across all aspects of the CEMS program during the 2020/21 academic year. Results were also determined by a peer evaluation report submitted to all CEMS academic directors.

The MIMT program stood out among 33 member schools in the reputable CEMS network, which constitutes a global alliance of leading business schools, multinational companies, and NGOs who work together to offer the best quality master’s in international management degrees. Having overcome various COVID-related challenges, this prestigious award represents a tremendous milestone for the program.

Throughout the year, various factors have also boosted the MIMT program for the award. Highlighted factors include the University’s commitment to the CEMS values and its promise to offer world-class global education, and the program’s reputation for bringing together the best of Eastern and Western cultures and values in an academic setting. What’s more, student engagement is a priority with great emphasis on in-class learning, extra-curricular activities, and more.

Check out Yixi WANG and Jacopo FAINI’s experience studying in the program below. They are also members of the CEMS Club Hong Kong.

Yixi WANG (MIMT home student) chose this program specifically for its travel abroad opportunities. This allows her to gain hard skills by experiencing an international academic culture and soft skills from interacting with her peers from different cultures: “The culturally diverse MIMT cohort provides a global vision to broaden my horizon for a better future.”

After joining MIMT, Yixi discovered how much this program has helped her progress in her professional journey. “The career service is fantastic! I have gained important soft skills for interviews, and the service also offers various employment opportunities with recruiting firms and organizations,” she reflected. In fact, the MIMT network is well connected with renowned recruiters, where one of the “Big Four” companies approached Yixi via LinkedIn for an internship offer.

Jacopo FAINI is an incoming exchange student from Bocconi University in the Fall Term. Enrolling in the MIMT program was the right choice for him. The program curriculum combines academic theory and business practice and highlights key Asian business expertise. “Many courses are specifically designed with Asian content to equip us with a better understanding of the Asian business environment,” he explained. Jacopo also appreciates MIMT’s dedicated faculty: “The professors are really nice. I can always interact freely and establish a friendship with them, which is rare in Europe.”

Yixi and Jacobo also shared the benefits of joining CEMS. “Riding on the resources provided by CEMS’ global alliance, we can enroll in any Global Online Elective (GOE) courses from prestigious CEMS partner universities around the world. I have attended a GOE course at the National University of Singapore this term, gained rewarding international exposure, and made lots of friends from overseas,” said Yixi, who also serves as the President of CEMS Club Hong Kong.

Jacopo is involved as the Co-head of Events at CEMS Club Hong Kong and pointed out that CEMS organized a variety of activities for students to expand their global network by interacting with people from various cultural backgrounds. “This is a fabulous opportunity to develop my future career working with a group of culturally diverse people, which is an essential practice in my hometown in Italy,” he said.

Furthermore, Yixi and Jacopo shared their advice for prospective students: Yixi believes that it is important to be open-minded, brave, and ready to accept new ideas and challenges. “Studying in MIMT is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to discover the world and try new things. So, try pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and communicate with your classmates as much as possible,” she explained.

Jacopo suggests engaging with classmates and exploring the full possibilities of the program from the get-go can significantly enhance the exchange experience. “Make use of the career services as the career office regularly arranges various enrichment activities and talks for students to start their careers,” he added.
