Sing Tao carried an interview with Professor Kar Yan Tam, Dean of HKUST Business School, on his plans to lead the School forward. He stressed the importance of enhancing the School’s innovation and entrepreneurship education, saying that technology advancements have provided a wealth of opportunities for both the young generation and experienced executives to start their own businesses. Dean Tam added that with strengths in science and technology at HKUST, the Business School was well positioned to help students realize the potentials of technology and innovation and bring positive impacts on business and society. The School would provide for example internship opportunities in startups and continue collaborating with corporations to offer more enriching and real-life learning activities like corporate projects and international case competitions.

The story also reported on the recently published Financial Times’ “Top MBAs for Entrepreneurship”, in which HKUST was ranked No.1 in Asia; the constantly highly ranked Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Program; the innovative World Bachelor in Business (WBB) Program; new courses related to Big Data; and the School’s extensive exchange network to help promote internationalization. When commenting on recent student movements, Dean Tam highlighted the need on two-way communications, and that HKUST students were more “rational”.
