Awarded by: KPMG and Qlik

Over 60 HKUST undergraduate students participated in the “Risk Insights Challenge” in Hong Kong jointly organized by global professional services firm KPMG and visual analytics company Qlik.

All with Business Intelligence (BI) and risk knowledge, these 17 teams of Years 2, 3 and 4 students submitted self-developed applications using Qlik products to solve one of four difficult business problems – namely digital risk, credit risk, business risk, and estimation risk. The overall winning team, “The Amazing Four”, took home the championship with the development of an app that can not only compare historical land transactions and see land value estimations of arbitrary locations, but also show the potential estimation risks of a specific company.

Professor Ekkachai Saenyasiri, QFIN Coordinator, and Professor Adela Lau, RMBI Coordinator, attended the award presentation ceremony and congratulate the winning team in person. The team was awarded a ten-week paid summer internship in KPMG’s Hong Kong office, where they can further work on their idea.
